Journal of Ceramic Science and Technology

The Journal of Ceramic Science and Technology publishes original scientific articles on all topics of ceramic science and technology from all ceramic branches. The focus is on the scientific exploration of  the relationships between processing, microstructure and properties of sintered ceramic materials as well as on new processing routes for innovative ceramic materials. The papers may have either theoretical or experimental background. A high quality of publications will be guaranteed by a thorough double blind peer review process.

The Journal is published by Göller Verlag GmbH on behalf of the Deutsche Keramische Gesellschaft (DKG). Edited by Yu-Ping Zeng, Shanghai Institute of Ceramics, Chinese Academy of Sciences, China.

Abstract

Alumina-chrome refractory was developed using alumina-chrome slag of different grades (5 ∼ 3 mm, 3 ∼ 1 mm, 0.088 mm and 0.045 mm), with added micron-grade MgAl2O4 spinel powders. Batch materials were milled, pressed and sintered at 1500 °C with 22 h soaking. The refractory with 5 wt% MgAl2O4 exhibited the best properties in terms of bulk density and apparent porosity. In all the refractory samples, new phases were formed as a result of slag-refractory and copper-refractory interaction. With the addition of MgAl2O4 spinel, the corrosion resistance of the alumina-chrome refractory was improved remarkably.
