Journal of Ceramic Science and Technology

The Journal of Ceramic Science and Technology publishes original scientific articles on all topics of ceramic science and technology from all ceramic branches. The focus is on the scientific exploration of  the relationships between processing, microstructure and properties of sintered ceramic materials as well as on new processing routes for innovative ceramic materials. The papers may have either theoretical or experimental background. A high quality of publications will be guaranteed by a thorough double blind peer review process.

The Journal is published by Göller Verlag GmbH on behalf of the Deutsche Keramische Gesellschaft (DKG). Edited by Yu-Ping Zeng, Shanghai Institute of Ceramics, Chinese Academy of Sciences, China.

Vol. 6, No. 2

Topical Issue
Status of Additive Manufacturing with Ceramics

Preface

Dear Readers,

the special issue "Status of Additive Manufacturing with Ceramics" of the “Journal of Ceramic Science and Technology” is dedicated to novel processing of advanced ceramics and composites with complex geometry. Shaping is one of the key issues in the manufacturing of ceramic-based products for various fields of application including traditional to automotive, aerospace, defense, energy, environmental and biomedical. Complex-shaped parts with tailored microstructures and properties are built from computer aided design (CAD) files or data obtained using reverse engineering methods including scanners and computer tomographs (CT or µ-CT). While in the early stage of development additive manufacturing was applied for rapid prototyping this approach is becoming increasingly more important for industrial manufacturing of ceramic products.

The special issue is focused on a variety of Additive Manufacturing techniques including contributions among others on Stereolithography, Selective Laser Sintering, and 3D-Printing (direct, indirect).  The manuscripts cover either the results of original studies or the reviews of accumulated studies. The results of some selected papers were presented at international conferences and some papers describe novel results. As the guest editors, we acknowledge all authors, who contributed their manuscripts to the special issue of the “Journal of Ceramic Science and Technology”. We are also grateful to the journal editor and all reviewers for their work and advice, which helped to improve the quality of the papers for publication. We hope that this special issue will be interesting and useful for ceramic specialists from academia and industry.
