Characterization and Dielectric Behavior of Varied Sintering-Accelerator-Doped Magnesium Titanates at Microwave Frequency
C.-H. Shen
Pages 49-54 · DOI: 10.4416/JCST2023-00013
To lower the phase-forming temperature of magnesium titanate, MgTiO3, magnesium ions were replaced with 0.05 mole of cobalt ions and diverse low-melting-point materials were as sintering accelerators. The phase formation of 0.9Mg0.95Co0.05TiO3 – 0.1Ca0.61Nd0.78/3TiO3 dielectric ceramics was verified by means of XRD diffraction to observe the crystallites of varied phases. SEM was used to observe the particle growth of the ceramic system and the composition ratio of the particles was analyzed by means of EDS. In contrast with the pure 0.9Mg0.95Co0.05TiO3 – 0.1 Ca0.61Nd0.78/3TiO3 dielectric cera …

Pages 1-6 · DOI: 10.4416/JCST2023-00014
Residual stress in porcelain tiles affects the application of the tiles, and especially so in the case of large-format porcelain tiles. However, quantitative characterization of the residual stress in porcelain tiles presents a critical problem. In this study, the hole-drilling method, which is widely used for the measurement of residual stress in metal structures, was adopted to measure the residual stress in porcelain tiles. One flat and one curved porcelain tile were measured. The details of and precautions required for application of the hole-drilling method for porcelain tiles are describ …
Daily Ceramic Product Design Method Based on Optimized BP Neural Network Model and Kano Model

Pages 7-20 · DOI: 10.4416/JCST2023-00015
The demand for and design of daily ceramic products design tools is one of the application With the continuous development of society, the demand for daily ceramic product design tools is increasing, among which Back Propagation neural network (BPNN) and Kano model are widely used in the design field. This paper aims to optimize these two models and explore the methods of daily ceramic modeling design. Firstly, this paper summarizes the data and technology of daily ceramic design. Secondly, the demand of ceramic products is reclassified by Kano model, and the BPNN and Kano model are defined an …
Enhanced Fracture Strength and Toughness of Zirconia by Coating the Pre-Stressed Mullite-Zirconia

Pages 21-28 · DOI: 10.4416/JCST2023-00016
In this work, we prepared mullite-zirconia/zirconia pre-stressed composites with excellent mechanical properties by means of pressureless sintering. Both the strength and toughness of zirconia could be significantly enhanced with the application of a pre-stressed coating. The optimal mechanical properties were obtained when the content of mullite in the coating was 40 wt%. The corresponding flexural strength and fracture toughness were 1250.48 ± 43.81 MPa and 12.39 ± 0.87 MPa·m1/2, an improvement of 39.15 % and 26.8 % compared with the values of zirconia, respectively. Basis for this reinforce …

S. Zhang, X. Gao, Q. Chen, Y. Qi, M. Lei
Pages 29-36
To address the issue of high labor intensity and potential hand injury associated with manual grinding of the bottom of ceramic plates, an automatic bottom grinding machine for ceramic plates was designed using the TRIZ theory product design process.

Pages 37-48 · DOI: 10.4416/JCST2024-00004
Spontaneous coagulation casting (SCC) has been proved to be a forming method for producing green bodies with high density and high uniformity. In this work, ZTA (zirconia toughened alumina) composite ceramics with different YSZ (yttria partially stabilized zirconia) content were prepared by means of SCC for the first time. A systematic comparative study was carried out to investigate the green body properties, mechanical properties, friction and wear properties of ZTA ceramics prepared with SCC and dry pressing (DP) forming methods. ZTA ceramics prepared by means of SCC have higher green body …
