The present study aimed to analyze the sintering behavior and mechanical properties of (Hf-Ta-Ti-Zr-Nb)C high-entropy carbide powder fabricated using an ultra-high-energy ball mill. The fabricated powder was sintered by means of spark plasma sintering (SPS) at a constant pressure of 50 MPa and for ten minutes with varying sintering temperature between 1 700, 1 800, and 1 900 °C. Changes in the microstructure and mechanical properties of the powder and sintered carbides were examined. The high-entropy carbide powder obtained after 60 minutes of ball milling was found to be an assembly of unifor …

Low-sintering-temperature (Na1-xKx)2Mo2O7 (0.0≤x≤0.2) ceramic was fabricated with the modified solid-phase sintering method. The sintering character and microwave dielectric property of the (Na1-xKx)2Mo2O7 (0.0≤x≤0.2) ceramic were studied systematically. With the modified solid phase sintering method and ion substitution, the mass transfer efficiency of the ceramic powder was improved in the sintering procedure, which decreased the sintering temperature of the Na2Mo2O7 ceramic from 575 °C to 440 °C. Among the components, the (Na0.8K0.2)2Mo2O7 ceramic was sintered well at 440 °C with a permitti …

Glaze defects adversely affect the quality of sanitaryware pieces and occur in form of pinholes, crawling or crazing. Pinholes are caused by the migration of gas from the body, which is either trapped by the glaze or released at a later stage during the firing process leaving the glaze insufficient time to heal. Several factors increase the development of glaze pinholes like high glaze viscosity during firing, high surface tension, and improper grain size distribution of raw materials. The choice of suitable materials and adjustment of the glaze formula combined with the optimum firing conditi …

In the present study, Ba6Ca2Ti2Nb2+xO17+2.5x (BCTN, x ≤ 1.0) materials were synthesized with the traditional solid-state reaction method. The phase evolution, structure, relative permittivity, and electrical conduction properties of these materials were studied. The results revealed that increasing the Nb content and improving the calcining temperature favored the formation of a pure simple cubic perovskite structure. For the end member of Ba6Ca2Ti2Nb2+xO17+2.5x, i.e. Ba6Ca2Ti2Nb3O19.5, Rietveld structural refinement disclosed that about 25 % Ca ions and all the Ba ions occupied the A site, wh …
The SiO2-B2O3-Al2O3-Na2O glass system was selected as the main body. The effects of MgO additions and the ratios of SiO2/B2O3 on the performance of the glasses were investigated. The corrosion mechanism model of glass in the battery was discussed. The findings were that adding MgO can increase the characteristic temperature of the glass, it also can strengthen the glass network structure and improve the corrosion resistance of the glass in the electrolyte. Reducing the ratio of SiO2/B2O3 can improve the performance of the glass. When the ratio of the SiO2/B2O3 reached 3.7, the performance of t …

This study reports for the first time on the preparation of medium-entropy (Ti,Hf,Ta)C-based powders with biphasic composition of Hf(Ti,Ta)C and Ti,Ta(Hf)C based on carbothermal reduction of TiO2, Ta2O5 and HfO2 with graphite. The synthesized (Ti,Hf,Ta)C-based powders had a fine particle size of 200 – 300 nm and low oxygen content of 0.42 wt%. After sintering at 2 100 °C for 1 h, single-phase (Ti,Hf,Ta)C ceramics were obtained. The effect of the Hf element content on the densification and grain growth of (Ti,Hf,Ta)C medium-entropy ceramics was investigated and compared with monocarbide ceramic …
