Densification of Mn-Doped YSZ for the Solid Oxide Membrane Process and its Surface Corrosion under Fluoride Salt

J. Kanghee, K. Buyoung, R. Jiseung, K. Hyeong-Tae, L. Heesoo

Pages 91-98 · DOI: 10.4416/JCST2020-00010

The densification-induced changes in the crystal structure and microstructure of x mol% Mn-doped 8YSZ (xMn-YSZ, x = 0, 0.5, 1.0, or 2.0) were investigated, and the mechanical and electrical properties of the samples were determined to evaluate their chemical degradation resulting from chemical stress loading. The xMn-YSZ samples synthesized with a solid-state reaction method possessed cubic crystal structures, similar to 8YSZ. The 0.5Mn-YSZ (111) peak shifted to a lower angle compared to that of YSZ. As the content of Mn increased, the xMn-YSZ peak gradually shifted to higher angles. The peak …

Optical Properties of a Thermochromic Film Fabricated with Nanoporous Monoclinic VO2 Particles

D. Jung, U. Kim, K. Hwang

Pages 73-80 · DOI: 10.4416/JCST2020-00004

Monoclinic vanadium dioxide (VO2 (M)) powder was synthesized by injecting air over a vanadium precursor powder at 190 °C for 1 h. The reversible metal-insulator phase transition was observed at 67 °C under heating conditions and at 61 °C under cooling conditions based on thermal and electrical property analysis. The VO2 (M) powder has a porous nanorod structure required to realize excellent optical performance. The VO2 (M) powder was mixed with an acrylic resin to fabricate VO2 films on glass substrates. The films consisting of porous VO2 particles exhibited a clear difference in optical perfo …

Improved Direct-Current Aging Stability and Suppressed Leakage Current of Zinc Oxide Varistors by Co-doping with Boron, Gallium, and Yttrium

Kuan Cheng, Weiqing Wang, Dongji Liu, Qingyun Xie, Yuanxiang Zhou, Hongfeng Zhao

Pages 111-116 · DOI: 10.4416/JCST2020-00008

The effect of B3+, Ga3+ and Y3+ co-doping on the microscopic and electrical properties of ZnO varistors is studied. Co-doping with multiple ions greatly improves the comprehensive performance of the ZnO varistors. The doped Ga3+ increases the acceptor concentration, raises the barrier height, and inhibits the increase of leakage current. Y3+ increases the voltage gradient by limiting the growth of grains. B3+ improves the resistance of ZnO varistors to direct-current aging. The varistor with a B3+ content of 0.2 mol% achieves a voltage gradient of 450 V/mm, leakage current of 0.54 A/cm2, and a …

Pages 81-90 · DOI: 10.4416/JCST2020-00009

In oxygen converters, the high temperature and aggressive alloys affect the refractory lining, which is most frequently made of MgO-C materials. The refractory lining of a converter is worn zonally along with the progress of the campaign. This paper describes a trial conducted to forecast the wear of the refractory material depending on the selected parameters of the metallurgical process. Based on the results of industrial measurements, a wear model of the magnesia-carbon refractory material for the converter slag spout zone was developed. For the construction of the model, multilayer artific …

Effect of Calcination Temperature on the Structural and Electrical Properties of Low-Temperature-Sintered (Na0.52K0.44Li0.04)(Nb0.88Sb0.08Ta0.04)O3 Ceramics

D.Y. Lv, Z. Liu, W.W. Jin, Z. Ye, F. Hua, K. Wu

Pages 99-102 · DOI: 10.4416/JCST2020_00011

Low-temperature-sintered lead-free 1.5 mol%-Na2O-excess (Na0.52K0.44Li0.04)(Nb0.88Sb0.08Ta0.04)O3 (NKN-LST) ceramics were calcined at 500 ∼ 950 °C. At 500 °C, a perovskite structure of the calcined powders without crystallinity was obtained. As the calcination temperature increased, an orthogonal structure began to form. And at 750 °C, the NKN-LST powders have a single orthogonal structure. The NKN-LST powders form a tetragonal structure when the calcination temperature ≥ 800 °C. Therefore, in the calcination temperature range of 800 ∼ 900 °C, the NKN-LST powders have two orthogonal and tetrag …

The Synthesis of Multi-Layer Silver, Copper and Aluminum Thick Films on Alumina Substrates using a Screen-Printing Method

Jun Fang, Jun Fang, Renli Fu, Xiguang Gu, Xinyao Zhang, Guojun Li

Pages 103-110 · DOI: 10.4416/JCST2020-00012

The thick-film surface metallization of alumina substrates was performed by means of a screen-printing method. The Ag-Ag, Ag-Cu and Ag-Al multi-layer circuits were constructed on the surface of alumina substrates, respectively. The microstructure and image diffusion of the interface have been determined with SEM and EDS. Our results suggest that Ag-Ag and Ag-Cu layers can form effective metallurgical bonding after sintering, whereas there is only a direct mechanical contact interface for the Ag-Al layer. The adhesion of the three interfaces is also different. The Ag-Ag layer exhibited the high …
