The Phase Composition and Mechanical Properties of Al2O3-TiN-TiC Ceramic Materials with Different Ni Content
Y. Fei, Ch. Huang, H. Liu
Pages 1-8 · DOI: 10.4416/JCST2019-00012
Research on the phase analysis of ceramic materials is less abundant than research on the microstructure. In this paper, Al2O3-TiN-TiC ceramic materials with different Ni content were fabricated by means of the hot-pressing technique. The effects of the content of Ni on the phase composition and the mechanical properties of sintered ceramic materials were investigated. The results showed that there were many diffraction peaks corresponding to the products of Ni in the range of 40°
Influence of the Printing Parameters on the Quality of Alumina Ceramics Shaped by UV-LCM Technology

Pages 1-10 · DOI: 10.4416/JCST2019-00023
The commercial alumina dispersion LithaLox HP500 from Lithoz (Austria) was 3D-shaped on a customized LCM device equipped with a light engine emitting at a wavelength of 365 nm and pixel size of 20 μm. The precision of the green part fabrication was measured using gear geometry and different exposure energies. The effect of the layer thickness on the shaping of the green bodies and the sintered ceramics was also evaluated. Additionally, the strength of parts fabricated using different layer thickness was tested in ball-on-three-balls testing and their fracture surfaces were analysed.
Design and Experiment of a 3D Printing System for Ceramics by Continuous Extrusion
Y. CHAO, X. LIU
Pages 1-10 · DOI: 10.4416/JCST2019-00048
In order to solve the problems of the brittleness, high hardness, complex shapes, long production times and high cost of ceramic parts, a novel 3D printing system for ceramics is proposed for the fabrication of ceramic parts by means of continuous extrusion. Based on an analysis of the principle of continuous extrusion of ceramics as a forming process, the system structure, nozzle extrusion device and motion control system were developed. The influence of the process parameters on the quality and defects of printed parts was analyzed in a series of printing experiments. The causes of defects ( …
Avoiding Thermal-Stress-Induced Failures by Design Optimization when Brazing Perlucor® to Inconel® 718 Components
L. Spatafora, J. Isele, H.-J. Ritzhaupt-Kleissl, V. Hagenmeyer, J. Aktaa
Pages 1-10 · DOI: 10.4416/JCST2019-00011
The advanced design of the video inspection system GeoKam for optical inspection of deep boreholes requires the joining of a transparent ceramic window to the Inconel® 718 housing. Active brazing using Incusil ™ ABA as active brazing material gave the best results. Detailed design calculations were performed using the codes ABAQUS® and STAU. Design optimizations resulted in the construction of a sleeve as an adapter part between the ceramic and the Inconel® 718 housing. An important result of the calculations was to avoid sharp edges of the sleeve by realization of a chamfer in order to reduce …

Pages 1-8 · DOI: 10.4416/JCST2019-00047
In this study, polycrystalline alumina ceramics were fabricated using slip casting and spark plasma sintering (SPS) methods. After being slip-cast, the samples were sintered at 1 350 and 1 450 °C for 20 min. The effect of the ball-milling time on the rheological behavior of alumina suspensions with different solid loads (65, 70 and 75 wt%) as well as on the ceramic densification process, microstructural evolution and optical transparency was investigated. It was demonstrated that the optimum ball-milling time to obtain rheological behavior suitable for slip casting was 6 h. Those samples prepa …
Low-Temperature Sintering and Microwave Dielectric Properties of Li2O-3ZnO-5TiO2 Ceramics Doped with B2O3
J. Liu, J. Zhu, J. Zhu, Y. Zeng
Pages 1-8 · DOI: 10.4416/JCST2019-00055
Phase composition, crystal structure as well as microwave dielectric properties of Li2O-3ZnO-5TiO2 ceramics (LZT135, for short) with the addition of B2O3 and TiO2 were investigated. X-ray diffraction (XRD) and energy-dispersive spectroscopy (EDS) results revealed that the samples with added B2O3 and sintered at 900 °C had formed solid solutions with a similar crystal structure to Zn2Ti3O8. When 0.25 wt% B2O3 was added, LZT135 ceramics could be densified at about 900 °C, while the negative τf value of about -31.5 ppm/K restricted its applications. TiO2 was added for further adjustment of the τf …
